My first child was born when I was 19, and I’ll admit, I had no idea what I was doing. Can you relate? I read every parenting book from the library, and followed some really terrible advice. This left my baby screaming in his cot, and left me feeling sleep-deprived, miserable and highly stressed out.
It didn’t take long before I realised this wasn’t working for me or my baby, so I tried another approach. I let my baby sleep in bed with me, I let him breastfeed as much as he pleased, and we had a wonderfully peaceful household.
By the time I was pregnant with baby #2, I felt like I had parenting all worked out. I wanted to give my child the most peaceful beginning to life possible. So I hired a midwife so we could have a blissful homebirth. It was this midwife who began to open my eyes to the power of herbs. She lead me to take herbs during my pregnancy for the health of me and my baby, such as drinking loads of nettle tea to increase my iron levels.
During my next pregnancy, I incorporated more herbs into my life and into the birth itself. I achieved such bliss from having a healthy pregnancy with no complications, a quick labour, and the perfect baby.
After the birth of my third child, I realised what my calling is. Have you had that feeling too? I realised my passion and purpose is herbal medicine. So I began formal studies in herbal medicine and graduated from Australasian College of Natural Therapies in 2017 with an Advanced Diploma in Western Herbal Medicine.
